About

Mitchell Cunha is a NY based Artist and Designer. For 5 years, he has been working as a freelance creator making custom, hand painted clothing for clients. he prides himself in creating quality, timeless, and unique pieces meant to inspire and break the mold of the traditional fashion industry. Fashion is merely a concept, but art is forever.

As a traditional trained artist specializing in portraiture, Cunha spent a majority of his life working out of studios, studying artists techniques, and perfecting his craft. It wasn't until he found fashion when he was 17 that the idea of designing clothes was born. With the idea to create clothing at a mass scale and see his designs worn by millions, he quickly fell into the traditional route of the industry creating screen printed hoodies and tees to sell to friends and students at university.

As he developed his style throughout the first 2 years at university, he realized the idea of mass creating took away from the creativity that fed him throughout the first few years of his artistic career. A documentary covering the current condition of the fashion industry, particularly fast fashion, opened his eyes to issues created by fast fashion, the dryness it created, and the lack of creativity that made his work stand out prior to creating graphic tees and hoodies. Something was missing.

After receiving an opportunity to move from his hometown of Detroit, MI to New York City, Cunha immediately packed up his belongings and drove 10 hours to NYC. With no idea or where he would live, there was a gravity he could feel pulling him in. It wasn't long after living in the city, feeling the creative energy, and allowing the rich culture and art that the city has to offer where Cunha found his true passion and calling. The concept from Cunha Exclusives was born. A concept that created a brand identity and broke away from the traditional fashion industry. With a lack of creativity, Cunha focussed on creating an art based brand that would not only make it impossible to mass produce the clothing, but it focused on breaking away from over consumption, and created timeless pieces that would become staples in a persons wardrobe. He was creating hand painted concepts, every piece was a one of one staple piece in someones wardrobe.
